Sudan sends mission to investigate killing of nationals in Sinai

The Sudanese Embassy in Cairo has revealed that a fact-finding mission is to visit the city of El-Arish in the Sinai Peninsula to investigate the killing of Sudanese nationals there.

Sixteen Sudanese men were apparently killed, wounded or captured by the Egyptian authorities when they tried to infiltrate into Palestine across the Egyptian border last week. An Egyptian military spokesman, Mohammed Samir, announced on Monday that five Sudanese citizens were killed by security forces while trying to sneak across the north-eastern border of the country. Six others were wounded, while the remaining five were arrested.

Relations between Egypt and Sudan have been strained in recent days following Khartoum’s criticism of the Egyptian security services and their treatment of Sudanese citizens, which it described as “harsh”.
