Germany to send reconnaissance aircraft to Syria

November 27, 2015 at 11:48 am

Germany plans to send a Tornado reconnaissance aircraft to Syria to take part in the war against Daesh.

Turkey’s Anadolu news agency quoted German government sources as saying that the decision came after a meeting between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Defence Minister Ursula von der Line yesterday.

Henning Otte, German lawmaker of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party said that “not only will [Germany] strengthen the training mission in northern Iraq, but we will also send our Tornado reconnaissance aircraft to Syria as a commitment to our fight against [Daesh].”

Germany plans to send the aircraft in order to support France in its war against Daesh in Syria.

The decision has yet to be approved by the German Federal Council.

Germany sent military units to Kurdistan earlier this year in order to train Kurdish Peshmerga forces in the war against Daesh.
