December 1, 2015 at 12:25 pm

European Union Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to clarify his announcement to suspend ties with the EU, Arab48.com reported yesterday.

On the margins of the Climate Change Conference, Mogherini met with Netanyahu and asked him to clarify his announcement that he is suspending ties with the EU, which an Israeli official described “just a symbolic measure”.

In the wake of Netanyahu’s declaration, the EU issued a statement yesterday afternoon stating: EU-Israel relations are good, broad and deep, and this will continue.”

“When it comes to the Middle East peace process, the EU continues and will continue to work on this in the Quartet with our partners because of course peace in the Middle East is of interest to the whole international community.”

A number of EU envoys are due to arrive in Israel on 9 December to meet with Israeli and Palestinian officials and discuss the “possible measures to stop the ongoing escalation in the West Bank.”
