Knesset member Aida Toumi denounced Jewish racism against the Arab citizens of Israel on Monday, Anadolu has reported. Toumi, the head of the women’s committee in the parliament, told Anadolu that the demonstrations by Israeli Jews in Afoula in the north, where they threatened to burn Arab homes is “huge racism”.
“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his ministers are the reason for [this racism] due to their daily incitement against Arabs,” insisted the MK. “According to the latest polls, Netanyahu’s policy made 60 per cent of Israeli society reject being neighbours with Arabs, while only 11 per cent of Arabs reject being neighbours of Jews.”
Toumi claimed that Netanyahu’s policy is leading Israel to a “very dangerous situation” and this “disastrous” relationship between Jews and Arabs will get worse if nothing is done to stop it.
The demonstration in question involved around 200 Israeli Jews protesting against the 48 winning bids out of 50 to buy state land and build homes for Arabs in Afoula. Hebrew news website Wallah reported one of Jewish resident of the city as saying, “We will burn every new Arab house built in Afoula.”
Out of a total population of 8.4 million in Israel, there are 1.7 million Arab Muslims, Christians and others.
