Egyptian President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi confirmed yesterday his country’s complete support for Iraq in its war against “terrorism”.

Egyptian National Security Advisor Faiza Abou El-Naga passed on Al-Sisi’s message to Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi, according to Iraq’s Alsumaria TV.

Al-Abadi’s office issued a statement saying: “Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi welcomed, in his office yesterday, the Egyptian president’s national security advisor, Faiza Abou El-Naga.” It also noted that Abou El-Naga passed on a message from the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to Al-Abadi expressing Egypt’s complete support of Iraq in its war against terrorism and in the decisions made by Al-Abadi regarding reform and the combat of corruption.”

The statement also added that Al-Sisi that “Iraq and Egypt are in the same front against terrorism.” He also stressed the importance of activating the agreements and strategic cooperation between the two countries in the fields of security, economics, investment, culture, etc.

Both countries suffer from a clear weakness in confronting Daesh, as the organisation has taken control of large areas of Iraq and waged a fierce war against the Egyptian army in Sinai. Daesh also recently breached the Egyptian security system in Sharm El-Sheikh Airport and planted an explosive device that led to the crash of a Russian plane and the death of all the passengers aboard it.
