Head of Qatari National Committee for Reconstruction makes a surprise visit to Gaza

The head of Qatar’s National Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza, Ambassador Mohammed Al-Emadi, arrived in Gaza on Tuesday for a surprise visit to the Strip.

A source told Quds Press that Al-Emadi arrived in Gaza late on Tuesday evening via the Beit Hanoun (Erez) border crossing in the north. The reason for his visit is not clear.

Emadi visited the Gaza Strip several months ago to open projects carried out by the National Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza and follow up on other, existing projects.

During a visit by former Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani to Gaza on 23 October, 2012, Qatar pledged to implement infrastructure projects worth $500 billion. The Gulf state also pledged to pay a billion dollars during the 2014 Gaza reconstruction conference that was held in Cairo, during which $5 billion was raised.
