Jordan calls on Israel to stop settler raids on Al-Aqsa

Spokesman of the Jordanian government yesterday called on the Israeli government to stop securing settler raids on Al-Aqsa Mosque, considering this a “flagrant violation” of the mutual peace agreement, the Anadolu Agency reported.

In a statement the Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications and Government Spokesman Mohammad Al-Momani also condemned the Israeli permission for “the extremist Jews who perform Talmudic rituals when they storm Al-Aqsa Mosque,” calling this a “profanation of the Islamic sites and provocation of Muslims’ feelings.”

“Continuous Israeli aggression on Al-Aqsa Mosque is a clear violation of the peace agreement signed in 1994 between the two countries,” he said, noting that this is also a violation of the international law, the UN and the UNSC resolutions.

The minister said that Jordan would continue guarding Al-Aqsa Mosque, adding that defending this right would be done “forcefully” in a “diplomatic” and “legal” way.

Based on the peace agreement signed in 1994, Jordan maintains the right to oversee the holy sites in the city of Jerusalem.
