The Palestinian Red Crescent wheelchair basketball team won the 2015 championship tournament in Gaza yesterday evening.
Organised by the Paralympics Committee and sponsored by the International Red Cross Association in partnership with the Gaza governorate and Gaza’s Artificial Limbs and Polio Centre, the tournament was held at the Saad Sayel Sports Hall in Gaza City on the International Day of Disabled Persons.
Eight teams participated in the tournament.
The Red Crescent team was given the first place trophy and medals, while Al-Salam Club for the Disabled came in second. The executive director of Amwaj Sport Media announced the tournament winners would receive $1,000.
Those competing in the tournament have either suffered various accidents or illnesses or have lost their lower limbs during one of the Israeli occupation’s wars on Gaza.
