Tunisia’s Islamist Ennahda Party has organised local conferences across the country to elect representatives to attend the party’s 10th national conference. As many as 41 local conferences were held on Sunday in seven provinces: Tunis, Zaghouan, Nabeul, Kairouan, Mahdia, Monastir and Kasserine.

The chairman of the conference preparation committee, Ali Harrabi, said in a statement that the local conferences will be supervised by members of the Shura Council and the party’s Executive Office. Altogether, 276 local events are planned to be concluded within a month.

In addition to electing representatives, the local conferences will debate and submit recommendations to be discussed at the national gathering. Although no date has been set for the main conference, Ennahda said that it will be held during the first 3 months of 2016.
