Iraq’s senior Shia cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali Al-Sistani condemned on Sunday the Saudi regime’s execution of prominent Shia imam Nimr A-Nimr.

“We have received with much sorrow and regret the news of the martyrdom of a number of our brother believers in the region whose pure blood was shed in an unjust aggression,” said Al-Sistani.

The Saudi interior ministry announced that Shaikh Nimr and 46 others were found guilty of being involved in “terrorism” and adopting a “takfiri” ideology. The kingdom carried out the execution of all 47 prisoners in 12 different cities across the country.
