US Secretary of State, John Kerry yesterday said that the negotiations between the opposition and Syrian government are still scheduled to begin on 25 January in Geneva, Switzerland.
In a press conference, during which he presented the diplomatic achievements made by the US over the past year, Kerry said that the focus is still on the Syrian issue and diplomatic efforts to “address the Syrian crisis, eradicate terrorism and ensure the return of Syrian refugees.”
Head of the Supreme Negotiations Committee, Riyad Hijab, announced that the Geneva Communiqué’s clauses represent the basis of negotiations regarding the transition phase in Syria. He stressed that interaction with regards to finding a solution to the Syrian crisis must not be an excuse for the regime and its allies to continue committing crimes against the Syrian people.
