Scores of Syrians in Turkey yesterday held a protest in front of the Russian consulate in Istanbul to protest against the humanitarian tragedy in the Syrian town of Madaya which has been suffering from a suffocating blockade imposed by Bashar Al-Assad’s regime forces and the Hezbollah militants for months.
Turkey’s Anadolu Agency reported that members of the Syrian-Turkmen Assembly and Suriye Soz Derngi participated in the vigil.
Member of the Syrian-Turkmen Assembly, Khaled Abdel-Ghani told the news agency that they had gathered to protest against the regime’s blockade on Madaya and to reject Russia’s intervention in his country, saying “Russia annexed Syria”.
“Humanity had died in Madaya, people are starving in the 21 century,” Abdul Ghani. “Russia, Iran, the terrorist group Hezbollah and the criminal Syrian regime are killing us; I appeal to the United Nations and the international community to save us from Assad’s grip.”
The town of Madaya, north-west of Damascus which is under the control of Syrian opposition forces, has been suffering from a severe shortage of food and medicine for nearly seven months.
The blockade resulted in the death of 23 people last month.
