UAE sentences citizen to death for joining Daesh

The Federal Supreme Court of the United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi yesterday sentenced an Emirati citizen to death after finding him guilty of joined Daesh.

Two other defendants were sentenced to seven years in prison for planning to join Daesh, according to state news agency WAM.

A fourth defendant was sentenced to three years in prison on the same charges.

On 15 November 2014 the UAE released a list of 83 organisations and groups it brands as “terrorist groups” including Daesh.

The UAE Federal Supreme Court yesterday also sentenced an Asian man to five years in prison followed by deportation after finding him guilty of collaborating with a foreign country and providing information about his work place which would harm the UAE’s national interests, WAM said.
