President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi yesterday received Director of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) John Brennan in Cairo to discuss local and regional affairs.

Al-Sisi’s spokesman Ambassador Alaa Youssef said that Brennan praised the strategic relations between Egypt and the United States, pointing to the importance of Cairo’s regional and international role in resolving crises across the Middle East.

Egypt appreciates its strategic relations with the United States and looks forward to strengthening and expanding them, Al-Sisi said.

The Egyptian president explained that his country is continuing its fight against militants in North Sinai, stressing that terrorism is limited to an area that does not exceed one per cent of North Sinai’s total land area

Brennan congratulated Al-Sisi on fulfilling the last step of the 2013 political roadmap with the inauguration of a new parliament last week.

The meeting was also attended by the head of Egyptian General Intelligence Khaled Fawzy and US Ambassador to Cairo Robert Stephen Beecroft.
