Iran denounces new US sanctions on ballistic missile program

January 19, 2016 at 12:58 pm

Iran has denounced new sanctions imposed by the United States on its ballistic missile program.

The Iranian Student News Agency (ISNA) reported Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hussein Jaber Al-Ansari as saying that the new sanctions announced by Washington on Saturday had no legal or moral legitimacy because Iran’s ballistic missile program is not designed to carry nuclear warheads.

Hours after lifting international sanctions that were imposed on Iran over its nuclear program, the US Treasury announced new sanctions on five people and six Iranian entities, including the Mabrouka Trading Company and its network in the UAE and China.

The US Treasury announced that it had included five Iranian nationals and a network of companies operating in the UAE and China on the US financial blacklist for their connection with Iran’s missile program.

Al-Ansari said: “Iran has stated its intention to respond to the sanctions by pursuing its legal missile program more seriously and enhance its defence and national security capabilities.”
