Iraqi and Egyptian defence ministers discuss military cooperation

Iraq’s Defence Minister Khalid al-Obeidi met with his Egyptian counterpart Sedki Sobhi in Cairo on Tuesday to discuss military issues and means to enhance coordination and cooperation between the two countries.

The Egyptian army said in a statement that the Iraqi defence minister discussed military cooperation with Egypt, with a focus on training and armament.

The Egyptian President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi also met the Iraqi minister. He said in a statement that al-Obeidi noted his country’s keenness to enhance cooperation between the two countries.

Al-Sisi said Cairo welcomes the Iraqi government’s efforts “to restore security and stability in Iraq and preserve the country’s integrity and unity”.

He stressed his support for the Iraqi army’s efforts to overcome the challenge of terrorism.

The Iraqi defence minister arrived in Cairo on Tuesday to begin a four-day visit.
