Davutoglu: No difference between ISIS and PKK

January 22, 2016 at 11:38 am

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Thursday there is no difference between the Islamic State and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) because both organisations carry out terrorist operations against civilians.

“Terrorism is a global threat, there is no difference between Daesh and PKK, and both of them are threats for peace as well as for humanity,” Davutoğlu said at the 46th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

“Turkey is the first country in the world that declared Daesh as a terror organization and attacked this terror group inside Syria,” Davutoğlu said.

The prime minister added: “The PKK terrorist group has been killing civilians in the southeast Anatolian region, but we don’t see international solidarity as we see against other terrorist groups.”

Davutoglu said his country supports moderate opposition groups in Syria fighting against the extremist group, especially in areas near the Turkish border but unfortunately Russian airplanes and Syrian regime forces are attacking moderate opposition groups rather than Daesh positions.

Davutoglu explained that Ankara has provided shelter, education and health services to more than 2.5 million Syrian refugees in Turkey.
