Approximately 900 Moroccan children have been sexually assaulted, the Huffington Post reported an official saying yesterday.
Head of Moroccan Coalition against Sexual Harassment, Khalid Al-Sammouni said: “The real number is far greater than 900, mainly in the poor areas,” noting that there have been 900 complaints registered by the coalition.
“There are a lot of families who prefer not to report sexual abuse due to their fear of social stigma.”
He called for a new police division to be setup to specialise in fighting such crimes against children. Adding that Moroccan police do not currently have the skills needed to deal with vulnerable children, especially as children are often too shy to report such events.
