The US and UK intelligence services hacked into the transmissions from Israeli drones as part of a large-scale intelligence operation called “Anarchist”, it was revealed today.

The operation, which lasted 18 years, is managed from a military base in Cyprus, the Israeli military administration confirmed. The US and Britain were able to monitor all the Israeli operations in Gaza, Syria and Iran.

Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported the news after viewing documents and pictures obtained by former American intelligence agent Edward Snowden.

The documents show that the American and British intelligence agencies monitored everything happening between the drone and their bases, including issuing orders to bomb targets and even the pictures they take.

The documents revealed that Israel activates a fleet of drones to collect intelligence information in Gaza, the West Bank, and all across the Middle East. They also show that the drones were used to collect intelligence information during Israel’s plans to launch raids in Iran.

Two types of Israeli drones carry missiles and bombs used to carry out assassinations, the information showed. These planes are launched from a number of military bases in Israel, including Tel Nof, Palmachim and Ein Shemer.

A senior Israeli official called it an “earthquake”, adding: “Apparently none of our encoded communications processes are secure from them. This is the most serious leak in the history of Israeli intelligence.”
