A source from the US Department of Defence has said that the Pentagon has increased the budget allotted to fight Daesh in Syria and Iraq.

US Defence Secretary Ashton Carter revealed today the Pentagon’s budget plan for 2017 which includes a 35 per cent increase in spending on military operations against Daesh, as well as the purchase of mini-drones and the reinforcement of US military presence in Eastern Europe, according to France Press.

A Pentagon official said yesterday: “The base budget for fiscal year 2017 is expected to be $524 billion, augmented by $59 billion for an overseas contingency fund to pay for on-going military actions in Afghanistan and against IS [Daesh].”

The military budget of the US is the largest in the world.

The budget plan also includes larger spending on US military presence in countries such as Estonia and Romania in order to counter Russian expansion in the area.

Carter is scheduled to give a speech today in Washington, while the full Pentagon budget will be revealed next week.
