Senior Muslim Brotherhood leader: Britain did not change policy towards group after report

February 8, 2016 at 9:46 am

Deputy leader of the Muslim Brotherhood Ibrahim Munir has said that Britain did not change its policy towards the group following a report on the Muslim Brotherhood.

In remarks to Quds Press, Munir said “The report is still in the political framework, and despite the report’s conclusions and inaccurate conclusions about the group’s ideology and history, it does not condemn the Muslim Brotherhood of terrorism.”

“Regarding the subject of extremism, I believe the report was drafted in a political rather than a legal way and we are trying through a team of lawyers to communicate formally with the state” he added.

Remarking on the group’s internal affairs, Munir said that there are differences among the group members on how to deal with the coup in Egypt.

“The dispute began after the military coup on 3 July 2013, when some of our members believed the group should send a strong message to the regime and to resist using violence which contradicts with the group’s policy,” he said.

Munir said the Muslim Brotherhood welcomes the reconciliation initiative proposed by Sheikh Qaradawi and noted that any call for elections and institutional change should take into account the security restrictions as well as the people’s interests.
