Rights group: Nearly 8,000 Algerians deported from Europe in 2015

Nearly 8,000 Algerians were deported from Europe in 2015 in an “inhumane way” due to the tightening of immigration policies, the Algerian League for the Defence of Human Rights said yesterday.

The organisation quoted the Algerian police as saying that the European Union countries deported more than 7,835 Algerians last year.

In a statement, the organisation condemned “the inhumane migration process and ill-treatment suffered by Algerians.”

“It is unacceptable that Algerians have become scapegoats for European political parties during their election campaigns,” the group said.

The organisation said these parties “employ the immigration and Arabs file in order to win more votes,” and that the Algerian community has fallen prey to these parties in order to win votes.

According to official estimates, more than five million Algerians live in Europe
