Israel demolishes Palestinian primary school

February 22, 2016 at 9:49 am

The Islamic-Christian Commission in Support of Jerusalem and the Holy Sites said yesterday that the Israeli occupation destroyed a Palestinian primary school in East Jerusalem to obstruct the education process of the Palestinian children, QudsNet reported.

Israeli authorities destroyed Abu-Niwwar Primary School in the occupied Palestinian city as part of a plan to Judaise it, the commission said.

The Israeli occupation demolishes Palestinian facilities, including homes and schools, under the pretext that they do not have the necessary building licences, the commission explained, however this is in direct opposition to article 53 of the Fourth Geneva Convention.

Secretary-General of the Commission, Hanna Issa, said the Israeli occupation demolishes Palestinian facilities in occupied Jerusalem and the West Bank in order to force Palestinians out and replace them with illegal Israeli Jewish settlers and to build more settlements, roads and military posts.

Recently, Israel increased the demolition of Palestinian properties in Area C, which is under its administrative and security control.

Issa pointed out that successive Israeli governments have used several pretexts to displace Palestinians living in Jerusalem in order to increase the number of settlers in the occupied city.

The Commission said that the Israeli demolition campaigns against the Palestinians and their properties have been increasing day by day, calling for an end to such “oppressive violations”.

It also called for putting pressure on Israel to commit to international humanitarian law, mainly the Fourth Geneva Convention which includes conditions relating to the protection of civilians during times of war.
