Palestinian teachers continue strikes

February 22, 2016 at 9:38 am

Palestinian teachers have continued their industrial action for the second week protesting against the freeze in wages and promotions, Quds Press reported yesterday.

The Palestinian Authority tried to convince the head of the Teachers’ Union to stop the strikes; however union members called for his resignation and continued their action.

In the light of the continued strikes, unknown sources reported that the Palestinian education ministry postponed the secondary school exams after extending the school year.

The ministry denied the news adding it did not call for volunteers to run schools instead of the striking teachers.

It added that it is “still studying the situation.”

Teachers took part in a full strike yesterday and are due to hold a half-day of strikes today followed by a protest outside the Ministerial council in Ramallah tomorrow.
