Daesh destroys cigarettes and causes price hike

February 23, 2016 at 2:26 pm

The price of cigarettes smuggled into the Gaza Strip has risen thanks to Daesh destroying a consignment that it captured in the Sinai Peninsula, Quds Press has reported.

Anonymous traders in Khan Yunis said that the extremist group burnt the cigarettes a few days ago after they were hijacked whilst being taken to the besieged territory.

“There are already limited supplies due to the siege,” explained one, “and this move has made them even scarcer, so the price has gone up.” The price rise helps traders to make up for their losses.

Not only have cigarette supplies been cut, said one trader, but people working in the supply chain have also been killed by Daesh. The smuggling of tobacco products is now even harder than before, the traders complained.
