Ya’alon: We are preparing for an escalation with Hamas, but hope it’s not soon

Israeli Defence Minister Moshe Ya’alon said yesterday that his army is preparing for an escalation with Hamas in Gaza, but hoped that this would not be very soon, QudsNet reported.

During a visit to an American warship in Haifa’s port, Ya’alon said: “The Palestinians in Gaza are still digging defensive and assault tunnels and Hamas is still trying to afford missiles, but this is not in the same degree of previous success.”

“The military confrontation with Hamas is coming and we have to face it,” Ya’alon said. “Currently, the borders witness unprecedented calmness as Hamas does not fire any bullet; however, this is not enough.”

Commenting on the situation in Syria, Ya’alon ruled out a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire. “It is difficult to see a permanent ceasefire with all sides accepting it,” he said. “Daesh and Al-Nusra Front are not part of this process; therefore, I do not see a ceasefire,” he added using another acronym for Daesh.
