Morocco halts contacts with EU after suspension of trade agreement

February 26, 2016 at 11:49 am

Morocco has suspended contact with European Union institutions over the European Court of Justice’s decision to invalidate their farm trade accord.

“We regret that we must suspend contact with the European Union until we receive clarifications about the reasons for it not to deal with us as required at the legal interests level, and until we receive enough assurances that we will be treated as a major and key partner in the future,” Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane said during a cabinet meeting yesterday.

In December, the court made a ruling annulling an enhancement of the agricultural agreement signed in 2012 between Morocco and the European Union.
