Morocco: Dismantled Daesh cell possessed biological weapons

March 4, 2016 at 9:57 am

Morocco said on Thursday that alleged members of a Daesh cell it dismantled last month were plotting to carry out “biological” attacks in the country.

“Some of the seized substances from the suspects are classified by international organizations which specialize in health issues as falling within the category of biological weapons dangerous for their capacity to paralyze and destroy the nervous system and cause death,” the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

“Members of the terrorist cell had prepared these deadly substances with a view to using them in their terrorist projects inside the kingdom,” it said in a statement.

Chairman of the Central Office of Criminal Investigation (BCIJ) Abdelhak el-Khiam said last month that the cell, which included ten people, had smuggled weapons from Libya in coordination with Daesh leaders in Iraq and Syria.
