Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi yesterday stressed the need to continue the fight against international terrorists not only in Syria but also in Libya and Yemen, according to a statement issued by the Kremlin.

Russian news agency Sputnik reported that, during a telephone conversation with Al-Sisi, Putin discussed whether the truce in Syria was still in effect.

He pointed out the efforts made in the context of the implementation of the joint Russian-American declaration on stopping casualties in Syria. The two countries lead the international group to support Syria.

Putin stressed, according to the statement, that the implementation of the truce’s conditions is a key factor towards calming the situation in Syria and improving the humanitarian situation there.

The Egyptian president called for launching a political process for Syria under the auspices of the United Nations as soon as possible.

They agreed that Russia and Egypt should continue their close cooperation to support Syria.

They also discussed the importance of creating the necessary environment for the resumption of Russian flights to Egypt as well as the return of Russian tourists to the country.
