Egypt state TV issues decision to investigate anchor for criticizing Sisi

March 10, 2016 at 10:11 am

The Head of Egypt’s Radio and Television Union Issam Al-Amir has issued a decision to investigate Azza Al-Henawy, a state TV anchor, for criticising the Egyptian President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi and describing him as “Hitler”.

The TV administration formed a committee of journalists and unionists on Tuesday to review the episode.

Al-Henawy’s criticism of the president on Sunday was the second occasion in the past five months.

In November 2015, Al-Henawy was suspended and referred for an internal disciplinary investigation for criticizing the president and the government’s response to the Alexandria and Beheira floods.

Al-Henawy was taken off the air for criticizing corruption under the Mubarak regime. She was also previously suspended under former President Mohamed Morsi for criticizing his administration.
