Riding into Gaza’s desert

March 25, 2016 at 10:22 am

Every Friday, motorbike riders – young and old – gather to practice their hobby of dune bashing in the Al-Zahra neighbourhood, southern Gaza City.

Events start in the afternoon and last until sunset. During this time, the riders show off their talents on the yellow dunes.

The riders’ enthusiasm for the sport is really apparent from their motorbikes, the likes of which are not present on the streets of Gaza. These bikes were brought into Gaza through the tunnels between Gaza and Egypt in the past years.

Many young men are attracted to this sport but are limited in their ability to pursue it due to financial constraints. Others save money throughout the week to pay for the fuel needed to enjoy the ride.
