Britain calls on Syrian regime to respect cessation of hostilities

April 2, 2016 at 2:04 pm

Britain called on Friday on the Syrian regime to respect the cessation of hostilities agreement, deploring the attack by regime forces on a school and hospital in the eastern Ghouta district of Damascus one day before, Anadolu reported.

Under-Secretary of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Tobias Ellwood said on Twitter: “Cessation of hostilities [deal] in Syria overshadowed by disturbing and unacceptable reports of air strikes on civilians in Ghouta.”

Meanwhile, the ‘United Kingdom against ISIS’ unit in the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office called for the Syrian regime to respect the deal and stop targeting civilians and opposition members.

On Thursday, at least 20 civilians were killed, most of them children and women, and 30 others were wounded in airstrikes carried out by the Assad regime against Deir Al-Asafeer neighbourhood in eastern Ghouta.

The Syria Network for Human Rights said it has documented the deaths of 623 civilians during March in attacks by warring forces in the country – most of them were killed by the Syrian regime.

On 26 February, the UN Security Council adopted an American-Russian resolution regarding the cessation of hostilities in Syria and allowing humanitarian aid to reach the besieged areas across the country.
