Iranian airline banned from Saudi airspace

April 5, 2016 at 11:36 am

The General Civil Aviation Authority of Saudi Arabia announced on Monday that it has banned Iran’s Mahan Air from using its airspace and airports, AlKhaleejonline.com has reported.

The decision was made, said a GCAA statement, following a review of airlines working in Saudi Arabia. “This revealed a number of breaches by Mahan Air of the laws and regulations governing airlines in the kingdom.” As a result, it added, the permits issued to the company were revoked in the interests of passenger safety.

The GCAA noted that the decision was based on article 163 of the regulations governing civil aviation in Saudi Arabia. Penalties for breaches of the regulations include the suspension or cancellation of operating permits.
