Iran’s Rouhani slams those critical of nuclear deal

April 8, 2016 at 12:56 pm

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani warned on Thursday of the seriousness of extremist rhetoric coming from those critical of Tehran’s agreement with the West over its nuclear program.

Rouhani made the remarks following comments from General Mohammad Ali Jafari, Commander of the Revolutionary Guards, calling the deal a source for Iranian “humiliation”.

In a televised address, Rouhani said the nuclear agreement is proof that “logic and dialogue can win over threats and coercion”.

“We cannot establish cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency or the United Nations with extremist ideology,” he said.

Rouhani said “extremist ideology tells us not to trust anyone, not to trust our neighbours or our friends, while the moderate thought tells us that we have to talk with the world”.
