UN experts concerned about Egypt’s crackdown on human rights groups

April 12, 2016 at 2:07 pm

Three United Nations human rights experts have expressed concern over Egypt’s continuing crackdown on human rights defenders and civil society organisations in the country.

The experts issued a joint statement yesterday on human rights violations in Egypt.

In it they said that several civil society organisations have closed down, while human rights defenders are being interrogated by the security forces, and are subject to a travel ban and the freezing of their assets.

The statement pointed out that Egypt has failed to provide a safe environment for civil society organisations, adding that the government should end all kinds of injustice and take all necessary measures to protect the organisations in question.
