Israeli and Palestinian Authority officials have reached an agreement to increase the number of Palestinian construction workers inside Israel to fill the manpower gap in this sector, Israeli sources revealed Wednesday.

Israel Radio reported, quoting informed sources that a meeting was held earlier this week between the Israeli Finance Minister, Moshe Kahlon and the Palestinian Authority Minister of Civil Affairs Hussein Al-Sheikh to discuss this issue.

The sources said the two sides have agreed to hire Palestinian sub- contractors to work in construction projects inside Israel.

According to the radio, the Coordinator of the Israeli Government Activities in the Palestinian Territories, Major General Yoav Mordechai took the initiative to hold the meeting.

Israeli businessmen in the construction sector have hailed the agreement, saying it “would fill the shortage of manpower suffered by the sector”.
