The United Nations envoy to Libya Martin Kobler has called on the internationally recognised parliament based in the city of Tobruk to support the unity government headed by Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj, explaining that he will visit Tobruk on Monday to encourage support.

“There is no alternative for political agreement which will lead to the country’s prosperity,” Kobler told reporters on Sunday in Tripoli.

Kobler announced that the UN mission has resumed its work from the Libyan capital of Tripoli and that several countries will reopen their embassies in Tripoli, according to the extent permitted by the security and political situation.

Kobler pointed out that the recent visit by European ministers to Tripoli is part of the international community’s support for the political agreement and the unity government, calling on all Libyans to support the unity government and facilitate its work.

The foreign ministers of Italy, France and Germany visited Tripoli earlier this week to emphasize their countries’ support for the unity government.
