Donors refuse to transfer money to Palestinian Authority

April 19, 2016 at 9:00 am

A number of donor countries refuse to fund projects proposed by the Palestinian Authority (PA) due to its use of funds to serve political agendas, Palestinian sources revealed yesterday.

Quds Net reported the sources saying: “The PA recently proposed a number of developments aiming to promote the economic conditions of the Palestinians and raise their standards of living, it received negative responses.”

This is in light of the teachers’ protests which “opened the doors for re-auditing the funds channelled to the PA.”

“Donor countries, mainly from the EU, audit the funds paid to the PA regularly. The EU is considered the PA’s main donor.”

Quds Net said the PA’s treasury suffers from a “serious” financial crisis which forced it to adopt austerity plans in a number of its institutions. It plans to merge a number of ministries to reduce running costs.
