Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Moshe Ya’alon insisted on Wednesday to maintain Israeli access to Area A in the West Bank and denied any understandings with the Palestinians to halt invasions, Anadolu reported.

An official statement issued in the wake of the reduced Israeli cabinet weekly meeting said: “The reduced security cabinet was briefed about the security cooperation with the Palestinian security services by the chief of staff.”

The statement added: “The prime minister and the defence minister decided to maintain access to Area A or any other area based on the security need.”

In addition, the statement stressed: “There are no other understandings with the Palestinians in this regard.”

Previously, a senior PA official told Anadolu that a number of PA-Israeli security meetings had been held over the last few months.

The source, who preferred to remain anonymous, said: “The meetings discussed the PA request to stop Israeli invasions in Area A of the West Bank in return for retaining the security cooperation between the two sides.”
