Iraq is heading for an ‘unknown future,’ says Muslim scholar

The secretary general of the International Union of Muslim Scholars warned on Friday that Iraq is heading for an “unknown future” which could include civil war, Anadolu has reported. “The alarm bells are ringing,” said Shaikh Ali Qara Daghi.

The political crisis in Iraq affects the whole region and everyone in it, including the Shia, who are divided, he explained. “Iran is trying to repair the situation, but it is beyond repair.”

According to Qara Daghi, the Sunnis in Iraq are weak due to the political clashes. “There is no Sunni leader having full support in order to be considered the main reference in the country,” he claimed. “Every Sunni group has a leader and this makes them the first to be affected by political and security crises.”

The shaikh called for all Muslim countries to move together and adopt a joint position towards the crisis in the region. “No one can harm the Muslims if all countries come together,” he suggested. Differences, he added, undermine efforts to achieve such unity.
