Hamas: ‘We need united Arab action to lift Gaza siege’

Hamas reiterated that its “relationship with the regional sides is going in the right direction” and it is hoping to see an Arabic role led by Saudi Arabia and Egypt to end the siege, Quds Press reported yesterday.

Spokesman for international relations Osama Hamdan told Quds Press: “Hamas’ relations with its surroundings are reasonable; many obstacles were removed. We hope our relations reach a good level, mainly because the Palestinian issue needs support from everyone and Egypt’s role is essential.”

The movement’s relations with Gulf states, mainly Saudi Arabia, has improved “notably”. “We hope this improvement continues and gets better,” he said, noting that there is a prospective visit for Hamas chief Khalid Meshaal to Riyadh.

He said that his movement hopes that Saudi leads the efforts to break the siege, which is led by the United States.

Regarding Hamas’ relations with Tehran, Hamdan said: “Relations with Iran are long and extended. We are eager to maintain these relations in the best form based on the support for resistance.”
