Qatar National Bank investigating alleged hack

In an official statement issued on Tuesday, the Qatar National Bank (QNB) refused to comment on posts circulating on social media claiming that the bank was subjected to a hacking operation that compromised both the bank’s and client’s information.

“Referring to social media speculation in regard to an alleged data breach, it is QNB Group policy not to comment on reports circulated via social media,” the bank said in a statement.

“QNB would like to take this opportunity to assure all concerned that there is no financial impact on our clients or the bank.”

The bank also said that it takes “the strongest measures possible” to protect and secure information, adding that data security its “highest priority”.

QNB also noted in its statement that it is currently “further investigating this matter in coordination with all concerned parties.”

A 1.4GB file cache has now entered the public realm and is available for download, reportedly containing sensitive corporate data and client financial information, including account information, contact information, social media page links and personal pictures.
