Israeli occupation forces have carried out 280 violations against Palestinian journalists and media outlets since the start of the Jerusalem Intifada in October, a senior Palestinian official revealed yesterday.

Quds Press reported Abdel Nasser Ferwana, former Palestinian political prisoner, researcher and head of the Census Department of the Palestinian Committee of Detainees and Ex-Detainees, saying authorities also placed restrictions on media outlets and closed a number of offices.

Israel is looking to cover up the crimes it commits against the Palestinian people, the confiscation of their land and the damage it causes to their homes and properties, Ferwana explained.

Since October, the Israeli occupation has arrested scores of Palestinian journalists, Ferwana said, noting that 19 have not been released.

He called for international bodies to “seriously act” in solidarity with their colleagues in order to afford protection for Palestinian journalists.
