US congress delegation to inspect security measures at Egyptian airports

May 3, 2016 at 11:52 am

A congressional delegation will inspect security measures at Egyptian airports, including the Cairo and Sharm el-Sheikh airports.

A source at the US embassy in Cairo told Anadolu news agency that the delegation, which will be led by Senator Michael McCall, will also inspect security measures in key tourist sites including the Giza Pyramids.

According to the source the delegation will also discuss a number of files relating to the fight against terrorism with Egyptian lawmakers and other officials.

Chairman of the Egyptian Airports at the Egyptian Airports Company Adel Mahjoub said this will be the first time a congressional delegation has inspected the security measures at Egyptian airports, but added that the airports are completely safe.

Egypt has allocated $32 million to strengthen security measures at airports in the wake of the attack on a Russian passenger plane in October last year which resulted in the death of all passengers and crew members.
