Algerian official accuses French philosopher of seeking to destroy country’s unity

Algeria’s former Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia on Thursday accused French philosopher and writer Bernard-Henri Levy of seeking to destroy Algeria’s unity by supporting a separatist movement.

Ouyahia made the comment while speaking at a conference organised by the National Democratic Alliance in Algiers.

He added that the party congress was convening at a time when the country is subjected to “dirty attempts to undermine its national unity by a small group of our own people”.

Ouyahia was referring to the Movement for the Autonomy of Kabylie, led by President of the Provisional Government of Kabylie in exile Ferhat Mehenni.

Ouyahia accused the movement of collaborating with foreign nations, saying links have been revealed including their relationship with the philosopher, who the former PM said was behind the destruction of Libya.

Bernard-Henri Levy is a French philosopher and political activist who has recently voiced support for the Movement for the Autonomy of Kabylie.
