Apache helicopters to be used to fight Daesh in Iraq

The US-led international coalition against Daesh yesterday announced that American Apache attack helicopters would be used in the battle against the terrorist group in Iraq at any moment.

Coalition spokesperson Steve Warren the Iraqi government agreed to the use of the helicopters in the hope that they will help it regain control of the Anbar province.

Consisting of more than 60 countries, the US-led international coalition has been launching airstrikes on Daesh strongholds in Iraq and Syria for nearly two years. Coalition forces also provide advice to local forces in the two countries.

In April, US President Barack Obama approved sending more than 200 new troops to Iraq, including special forces, trainers and technicians. He also approved the use of Apache helicopters for the first time against Daesh in Iraq in order to provide more effective support, especially in the expected battle to restore the northern city of Mosul in the Nineveh province, which is a stronghold of the militant group.
