US military delegation in Cairo to discuss ‘mutual cooperation’

The Director of the US Defence Security Cooperation Agency, Vice Admiral Joseph Rixey, headed a military delegation to the Egyptian capital Cairo yesterday.

Aiming to discuss enhancing cooperation between Egypt and the US, the delegation is due to remain in the country for three days.

Security source, who spoke to the Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity, said Rixey will meet with a number of senior officials to discuss enhancing military cooperation between the two countries, especially in the field of joint military exercises and weaponry, as well as discussing the latest developments in the region.

The US military delegation is considered the sixth delegation of its type that has arrived in Cairo over the past six days.

The Commander of the Chinese Navy, Admiral Wu Shengli, also arrived in Egypt yesterday. His delegation is also expected to remain in the country for three days to discuss ways of boosting military cooperation between the two countries.

On Monday, Spanish Defence Minister Pedro Morenés arrived in Cairo as part of a military delegation.

A senior French military delegation, consisting of 53 officers, arrived in Cairo last Saturday to discuss increasing the military cooperation between the two countries, especially in the areas of military training and armament.

On the same day, a delegation from the Greek Navy also arrived in the country, while Russian military officials visited the African nation last Thursday.
