Kurdish MPs put conditions on return to Baghdad

Kurdish parliamentarian blocs announced on Monday that there are conditions that must be met before they will return to the Iraqi parliament in Baghdad, Anadolu reported.

“The federation government and the political parties in Baghdad have to implement our conditions ahead of the return of [Kurdish] MPs and ministers to the councils in Baghdad,” spokesperson of the Kurdish blocs said in a press conference held in the Kurdish region in south Iraq.

Head of Change Movement bloc Hoshyar Abdullah said that the heads of the Kurdish blocs have agreed on major points and are ready for “talks with all parties in an attempt to end all the outstanding problems and overcome the ongoing crisis”.

Meanwhile, the head of the Kurdish National Union Ala Talibani said in the same conference: “We do not want to be an obstacle ahead of the legislative authority, but there are preconditions ahead of our return [to the parliament].”

The Kurdish MPs and other officials fled Baghdad to the Kurdish region after hundreds of protesters affiliated to Shia Cleric Muqtada al-Sadr stormed Baghdad’s Green Zone and broke into the Iraqi parliament.
