Iraq’s national coalition calls on government to achieve national unity

May 18, 2016 at 12:24 pm

The head of Iraq’s National Coalition, Iyad Allawi has called on the government to immediately review pending political and security files in order to face the challenges arising from them, and work to achieve national unity and comprehensive reconciliation.

Allawi said this in a statement on Tuesday whilst the government has failed to run the state institutions and achieve serious reforms as well as respond to pressing economic, security and political challenges.

“The Islamic State terrorist group has carried out several terrorist operations against civilians as well as vital economic and security goals in Baghdad and other provinces claiming the lives of hundreds of civilians and security officers in addition to the destruction of the country’s infrastructure, which raises several questions about the operations timing, and how they relate to the political crisis” Allawi said in his statement.

The Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jubouri Monday night met with Prime Minister, Haider al-Abadi, National Security Advisor, Faleh al-Fayad to discuss political, security and economic developments.

Meanwhile, MP for Nineveh province, Ahmad Madlool Jarba has criticised what he said were political blocs that “abuse” the current crisis experienced by Iraq.

Jarba said in a statement that if the Reform Front truly wants serious reforms it must preserve the country’s unity and join this week the Parliament sessions.
