Hamas says terror cell plotted against Arab countries

May 20, 2016 at 12:40 pm

Hamas said in a statement on Thursday that the movement’s security services in the Gaza Strip have captured a cell that plotted against some Arab countries without naming them.

The group said the cell’s agenda included provoking chaos in Gaza and compromising security in some Arab countries.

According to the statement, Hamas has informed some Palestinian factions of the information it had gathered.

Hamas leader Salah Bardawil said in earlier remarks that the armed group had planned to carry out assassinations against Egyptian officials, including the president, under the guidance Fatah Central Committee member Tawfiq Tirawi.

Fatah Spokesman Osama al-Qawasmi has denied the accusations and called on Hamas to stop interfering in Egyptian affairs.
